Guitar World's Buyer's Guide is the brand's best-selling bi-annual magazine that presents the year's best gear...with a little help from our friends at Playboy.
As Managing Editor, I oversee all editorial facets of producing this magazine, from managing the staff and budgets, producing the photo shoot and setting deadlines with Art/Ad/Production to interacting with clients and maintaining our partnership with Playboy.
Based on the popularity of the Buyer's Guides at the newsstand, we've naturally experimented with various online/social pushes. At each celebrity shoot, we Tweet and Facebook candid photos and videos from the event. We also provide content for the models and gear manufacturers to message to their followers. We then revisit that conversation and re-engage our followers, models and manufacturers during key content roll-outs: online video teasers, behind-the-scenes photo galleries and finally when the issue is available for purchase.
Another successful social media integration is our annual "Buyer's Guide Model Search Contest" in which our readers submit photos of themselves with their gear. The winner of the contest appears in the pages of the Buyer's Guide, as well as on a dedicated section of GuitarWorld.com.
